Sweet Home Alabama

24.06.2009

In May 2009 Fronius USA celebrated an exceptional sales success. An incredible 120 Fronius TransPuls Synergic (TPS) 3200 welding systems were ordered by Austal USA for use on the JHSV (Joint High Speed Vessel) project.

Mobile (Alabama), USA. In May 2009 Austal USA placed an order for 120 Fronius TPS welding systems equipped with Push/Pull torches and JobMaster. The reason for such massive expenditure was the award of a contract from the US military and US Navy for the joint JHSV project.

The most stringent demands were made on the new generation of this multipurpose platform. Troops must be transported carrying full equipment, yet the 103 m long catamaran must also remain highly manoeuvrable in shallow waters and reach a top speed of up to 35 knots when fully loaded. To achieve these targets, quality must be paramount. Austal had to look no further than the Fronius welding systems due to their reliability and unbeatable customer support.

First contact was made between Fronius and Austal USA two years ago with a demonstration of a TPS 3200. The Fronius team invested much time and energy into their work. Their effort has now been rewarded. The merit must go the successful team based around Gary Hills, Mark Stone, Gerald Obritzberger and TSN USA. Congratulations go to everyone involved, keep up the good work!

Based in Australia, this global leader in the construction of aluminium vessels manufactures mainly personnel transport vessels, car ferries and container ships.
The company plans to purchase a further 250 Fronius TPS welding systems to equip its soon-to-be-completed site in Mobile.
