Supplier day 2012 - Raw materials through the ages
According to the Fronius supplier management the 4th supplier day took place on the 30th of Mai. the topic "raw materials through the ages" was content of all points on the agenda. Besinde to very interesting presentations and a workshop with following discussion, the best suppliers were honored.
Sattledt. 56 suppliers from Austria, Germany and Switzerland have been welcomed by the song “Brenna tuats guat” of Austrian singer Hubert von Goisern. The censorious content of the song and also the film “Energy – Foundation of Life” described the worldwide usage of raw materials and the problems and chances which are caused by these wasteful actions. The company presentation, held by Herbert Mühlböck – COO, contained important information about the three divisions of Fronius as well as the future potentials and was the beginning for some interesting presentations.
The importance of raw materials and sustainability at Fronius was explained by Christian Tschany – Head of Procurement raw materials / mechanical parts – by giving an overview about the efficient usage of raw materials and the related purchasing volume.
Afterwards Christian Schirmeister – Executive Director at J.P. Morgan London – took the participants on a journey into the world of the London Metal Exchange. He specially focused in his presentation on the history of metal trading and the operation mode of modern metal exchanges like online trading, trading in the open ring and hedging. Mr. Schirmeister demonstrated different possibilities to reduce or minimize price risks according to the purchase of raw materials.
After a common lunch Rick Grunwald – R&D Materials and Processing Technology – presented the trends within the material technology at Fronius. Therefore he explained different requirements to raw materials by pointing out examples from daily business.
In the following workshop the participants had to work on different questions about topics like pricing, availability, sustainability and future trends on the raw material market. The results had been presented and discussed in an open round.
The event ended with the honoring of the A-suppliers. These suppliers got an award for special performances due to quality and deliveries
