Even better contacts with Contec MD

With its Contec contact tip, Fronius developed a world first in welding torch technology that guaranteed users significantly higher cost-effectiveness through improved process stability and much better availability. Contec MD (MultiDiameter) is the next step in the process: just one nozzle fitting for each type of torch.

With the launch of Contec in 2010, Fronius pointed the way in welding torch technology: thanks to revolutionary split tips technology, users were able to enjoy precision contacting, and all the ensuing benefits, for the first time. In collaboration with its customers, Fronius has now developed the contact tip even further: With the original Contec, the nozzle fitting still had to be modified to fit the diameter of the wire; Contec MD now offers a single nozzle fitting for all wires from 0.8-1.6 for each type of torch.

The advantages for customers include

/ a larger contact area
The split tips consequently offer a contact area of 12 mm instead of the 4 mm as before. This makes more material available, which in turn guarantees a longer service life, even if hard wires are being used.

/ a higher spring pressure in the nozzle fitting
With Contec MD the split-tips are much stronger compressed and lead more precise, whereby the wire is placed much better in the centre.  The result: a more stable Tool Center Point.

/ a longer service life
Contec MD provides the greatest benefits in terms of longer service life, without any loss of performance, in the CuSi and aluminium power ranges, CrNi up to 200 A and steel up to 300 A.
