33% of technical apprenticeships at Fronius filled by women
12.09.2011
Seeing women in engineering roles at Fronius is no longer a rarity. Demographic trends show that it is becoming increasingly important for companies to recruit the skilled workers of tomorrow at the apprentice stage.
"Apprentices represent the future for Austrian companies," stresses Ms Hummer, a member of the provincial government and representative for women.
“Many young women who applied as office administration trainees have ended up in an engineering role with us," explains Rudolf Eitelsebner, apprentice training manager at Fronius. Receiving training in a technical profession gives apprentices the opportunity to become involved in many different activities and improves their career prospects.
Although the number of female engineering apprentices at Fronius was still very low five years ago, more than a third of the 129 technical apprentices at the company today are young women. In total, Fronius is currently training 144 apprentices in 11 different professions (as at 01.09.2011).
