Different kinds of batteries

Two different types of battery are used depending on the application. Fronius can supply the correct charger for either battery type:

Starter batteries (= SLI batteries – Starting, Lighting, Ignition) are basically used for starting internal combustion engines. They supply a large amount of energy for short periods and can carry out several thousand starts. These batteries are not designed for supplying the consumer with energy for long periods (e.g. leaving the lights on overnight). This type of battery is sensitive to deep discharges, which cause permanent damage to the battery.

These batteries are designed to supply consumers with energy for long periods (e.g. electric forklifts, lift trucks, etc.). This type of battery is also called a cyclic battery – each charge and discharge is a cycle. The service life of these batteries is around 1500 cycles. In contrast to starter batteries, these batteries can be deep-discharged to 80% without suffering damage.
