Fronius receives Climate Protection Award for HyLOG. It was gripping right to the end. The jury kept the winners of the Austrian Climate Protection Award a closely-guarded secret. Despite 550 submissions and 16 nominations, Fronius succeeded in its bid to take home the prize in the Ideas & Innovations category.
It was not only the ceremony in Vienna's Trade Hall that was extraordinary: the prize itself is quite remarkable. It takes the form of a multicoloured flower with a globe measuring 50 cm across and weighing 6 kilos. A cast bronze artwork that stands out from the other awards through its striking profile. The artist Thomas Stimm designed the piece. HyLOG project leader Ewald Wahlmüller received the award from Environment Minister and new ÖVP head Josef Pröll and ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz.
The Ministry for the Environment and the ORF are the main sponsors of the event. "The winning projects are classic examples of how to combine economic success with climate protection", said Josef Pröll in an interview with host Claudia Reiterer. "It's really something special to win the top Climate Protection Award", opined ORF Upper Austria State Director Helmut Obermayr in a discussion with Ewald Wahlmüller.
HyLOG is a transport vehicle for moving goods around within a company. The name is a combination of Hy (from hydrogen) and logistics. What makes it of particular interest are the hydrogen fuel cells that drive the vehicle. This "green fuel" is obtained with zero emissions from solar-generated electricity via electrolysis. As it only takes a few minutes to change the hydrogen battery, the vehicle only needs to stop briefly and no time is lost. In addition, hydrogen batteries have double the range of conventional batteries.
