Wels – when viewing vehicles in the showroom potential buyers do not want to just look, but to try out all the different fea-tures of the models. The on-board systems demand a mas-sive amount of power from the vehicle battery. This places huge demands on the starter battery as it has to go through numerous charge and discharge cycles. Fronius has developed an intelligent power supply in the Acctiva Seller, which supplies the power required during vehicle presentations and prevents the battery from discharging.

Power supply in demonstration vehicles is becoming more and more of an issue for auto manufacturers and dealers. A starter battery loses 8-10% of its capacity per month through self-discharge alone. In the showroom this effect is accelerated by the range of consumers active during presentations. If battery voltage drops below a certain level, the on-board electronics will react by switching off some functions. This means the potential buyer will only get to experience some of the features. To prevent this, many dealers turn to conventional battery chargers. However, these have the disadvantage of only starting to charge the battery once it is fully discharged. If the charger is not powerful enough, the battery will become more deeply discharged and will often not be fully recharged. Because of the way they are made, starter batteries do not stand up to this kind of treatment well. The consequences include battery damage which can then lead to complaints and warranty claims. Fronius has developed a special characteristic for the Acctiva Seller. This combines the advantages of a normal charging characteristic and external power supply mode and ensures that the battery is treated with the greatest care possible. The principle is simple: as soon as an electrical consumer is switched on during a presentation, power is supplied by the Acctiva Seller, not the vehicle battery.

The 30 amp Acctiva Seller has been designed as a power supply specifically for today's showroom needs, including the handover of the vehicle to the customer. Its compact design means it can be hidden under the bonnet or under the car. The plug-in charging and mains cables can be routed through the smallest of openings in the car. As the device is just 100 mm high (without edge guard 88mm), it can also be placed under cars with low ground clearance.
The Acctiva Seller does not require a fan due to its size. Unwelcome fan noise in the showroom is now a thing of the past.

The Acctiva Seller has been deliberately designed to be easy to operate; it can be used by even the least technically-minded members of a dealership. Power is controlled by one stop/start button and there is only one charge characteristic to worry about. There is no longer any need for a workshop mechanic to come in and deal with battery care. In the future sales personnel can deal with it.

A safe unit
The edge guard of the two-kilo device makes the Acctiva Seller slip-proof and prevents paint damage and dents if dropped on the vehicle bodywork. The special housing construction is designed to stop theft and allows a Kensington lock - usually seen on mobile PC hardware - to be used. However, Fronius' security efforts do not just stop at the compact and robust housing. The handy 30 amp device provides maximum safety for the sensitive vehicle electronics, the charger and the user. Cutting-edge Active Inverter Technology protects the on-board electronics from harmful voltage peaks. It can tell if the polarity of the charging terminals has been reversed accidentally by the operator, or if the two terminals touch one another. The device's intelligent technology switches to conservation charging as soon as the battery is fully charged. This means the Acctiva Seller can remain connected to a vehicle for a long time with no problems. Along with all the measures to ensure the security and comfort of the device, Fronius has also taken into account energy costs and environmental impact. "Our Acctiva Seller is 96% efficient. That means that 96% of the electricity from the mains is used to charge the battery." says Harald Scherleitner, Head of the Battery Charging Systems Division at Fronius.
