Nothing but the best for steel welders

28.10.2009

Welding system for harsh conditions in the field

Welding steel efficiently, whether in mechanical engineering, constructional steelwork, pipeline, crane, rolling stock and container construction, shipyards or other steel-processing industries, puts an enormous strain on both man and machine. The developers at Fronius saw what was needed and developed a comprehensive solution that they've called steel transfer technology. In September they introduced the completely digitised TransSteel 3500 and TransSteel 5000 inverter power sources at the “Schweißen & Schneiden” trade fair in Essen (Germany). When MAG and MMA welding, users benefit from being able to concentrate on what matters most in their day-to-day work. The intuitive functions and innovative wire-feed system are ideally suited to steel welding. Its robust, compact design and low weight enables the TransSteel to offer immediate benefits in terms of greater portability in the assembly hall or on the building site.

All TransSteel products are easy to use, hard-wearing and reliable, and their weld properties are second to none. The central control unit ensures a reliable process and reproducible welding results, even when process fluctuations occur.
The innovative approach to wire feeding in particular leads to further efficiencies in the steel transfer technology system. This lightweight, robust module comprising hosepack, torch and display ensures that the filler wire advances reliably. The 'comfort wire' function automatically takes care of wire threading. The user can easily take off the portable wire-feed unit and bring it to the point where it is to be deployed in difficult to access welding locations. The welding parameters remain stable, regardless of the position of the hosepack.

A special ignition control feature prevents drops from forming at start-up. In addition to the standard arc, two other types of arc can be selected: steel root has a fine, soft arc for applications including root runs or the filling of wide gaps, whilst steel dynamic with its extremely hard, dynamic, stable spray arc is suitable for components requiring an especially strong joint.

The innovative FSC (Fronius System Connector), which is suitable for both manual and robot applications and with gas- or water-cooled systems, improves quality, reliability, flexibility and convenience: with just one central connector for all media, the user no longer needs any external control plugs. The ergonomically designed torch can be changed quickly and safely using a lever.

The long service life of the TransSteel devices is impressive, especially when they're being used all the time. What's more, they're even equipped to take advantage of future technological developments.
