Fronius wins Energy Globe Award

06/03/2008

The annual Energy Globe TV Gala was held on May 26, 2008 at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium. Fronius succeeded in taking the Energy Globe award in the “Category Air” division as well as the over-all prize, the “Energy Globe World” award in what is an internationally broadcast event that reaches three billion households.

The Energy Globe award has become a highly prominent and prestigious prize that celebrates projects that are dedicated to improving the environment.  Also known as the Award for Sustainability, some 800 projects are submitted annually in the categories of Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Youth.  Award recipients are decided by an international jury in these categories and the over-all winner of the “Energy Globe World” award is voted on by the audience in attendance at the Gala.

The entry submitted by Fronius is the HyLOG project.  “HyLOG” (Hydrogen Powered Logistic System) is a complete system based on regeneratively produced hydrogen used to fuel an in-plant powered industrial truck.  This pilot project is being tested at our plant in Sattledt, Austria.  For in-depth information about the HyLOG project as well as about the Fronius Energy Cell please click here.

Other category winners are:  EARTH – Peru (Sustainable solid waste management program), FIRE – Spain (Andasol solar power plant projects), WATER – Mozambique (Helvatas ensures sustainable water supply) and YOUTH – South Africa (Action Based program triggers lifestyle choices concerning climate change).
