E-Mobility in China: Fronius Welds Electric Sports Car Qiantu K50

Partnership

9/12/2018 / China
Elegant, sporty, powerful: three words that spring to mind when describing the Qiantu K50, an electric supercar from China. The series version of the high-tech electric sports car was launched on the Chinese market in August. A high-tech vehicle calls for high-tech welding – from the Fronius TPS/i.

This stylish sports car is powered by two electric motors, each of which supplies 190 HP. A booster function increases this to 218 HP, permitting acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.6 seconds. The roadster made of aluminum and carbon features typical sports vehicle proportions and weighs just under two tons. A range of 380 kilometers (236 miles) is possible from a single battery charge.

Qiantu Motor forms part of Chinese automotive technology company CH Auto based in Beijing. Arc Welding technology accounts for 70 to 80 percent of all joining technologies used by Qiantu Motor. The design and development firm’s factory is located in Suzhou in Jiangsu Province, where TPS/i Push-Pull systems from Fronius are in operation. The Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) process is in use on further TPS/i power sources. Moreover the welders use MagicWave 4000 units to weld TIG seams. In total the company uses about 100 Fronius welding machines, allowing the manufacturer to produce high-quality weld seams on its electric supercar.
