Power Your Home, Your Way: How Fronius Reserva Redefines Solar Independence in Australia

Australia is no stranger to sunshine, or power outages. And while more than 3.6 million homes already have solar panels on their rooftops, many are still at the mercy of the energy grid when the sun goes down or the network goes offline.

Now, we are introducing the final piece of the energy puzzle: The Fronius Reserva, a home battery made for Australian conditions, designed to work in perfect harmony with the full Fronius ecosystem. This isn’t just a new product. It’s a smarter way to take control of your energy, day and night.

A Shift Toward Energy Independence

Solar adoption in Australia has surged in the past decade, but most systems still rely on the grid after dark. For many households, that creates two challenges:

  1. Limited use of their own solar power
  2. No energy resilience during blackouts

The answer? Battery storage – and more specifically, storage that works seamlessly with the rest of your solar setup.
That’s where Fronius Reserva comes in. It allows you to:

  • Store excess solar energy during the day
  • Use it later: at night or when prices spike
  • Stay powered during outages thanks to backup and black start capabilities

The Complete Fronius Energy Ecosystem

What sets Fronius apart is its end-to-end approach: generation, storage, smart energy management, and monitoring, all from one brand. Here’s how it works:

  1. Solar Inverter: The Fronius GEN24 Plus: The heart of your system, converting DC solar energy into AC power for your home and directing energy to the grid, battery or appliances.
  2. Fronius Reserva Battery: DC-coupled for high efficiency, it stores solar energy and releases it when needed, without unnecessary conversions.
  3. Fronius Smart Meter: Tracks household energy use in real time for smart decision-making.
  4. Fronius Solar.web: Your energy dashboard, one app to monitor everything from solar generation to battery level and power flow.
  5. Partner Network & Support: Installation, service and warranty management, all handled by trained local Fronius partners across Australia.

Built for Aussie Homes, Inside and Out

The Fronius Reserva isn’t just smart. It’s tough, too.

  • IP65 weather protection and a temperature range of –20 C to +55 C make it suitable for harsh climates, whether you’re in a hot Perth summer or a cold Canberra morning.
  • At only 17.6 cm thin, the sleek design fits in tight garages or protected outdoor spaces.
  • The battery is stackable and modular from 6.3 kWh up to 63 kWh to meet the needs of growing families or small businesses alike.

“We’ve created a solution that’s scalable, simple to install, and built to handle Australia’s unique conditions,” says Roland Resch, Managing Director of Fronius Australia. “And most importantly, it gives homeowners the peace of mind that they’re in control, even during a blackout.”

What’s Inside: Safe, Durable, Efficient

The Fronius Reserva uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells – a cobalt-free battery chemistry that offers:

  • Higher thermal stability
  • Longer lifespan
  • Lower maintenance
  • Improved safety in extreme conditions

It’s a conscious design choice, aligning with Fronius’ broader sustainability mission, what we call “24 hours of sun”: a vision of a world fully powered by renewable energy. And the battery is backed by a 10-year warranty.

Homeowner FAQs: What You Really Want to Know

Can I use it with my existing Fronius system?
Yes, The Reserva works perfectly with the Fronius GEN24 Plus hybrid inverters, and can be retrofitted to most systems.

Will it help during a blackout?
Absolutely. With full backup power and black start, it can both power your home and recharge itself from solar, even without the grid.

I live near the beach – is the Reserva built for coastal conditions?
Yes. The Fronius Reserva has an IP65 protection rating, meaning it's protected from dust and strong water jets. It's also rated for operation from –20°C to +55°C, making it ideal for humid coastal areas like Queensland or NSW. For homes close to the ocean, we always recommend installing the battery in a protected area like a garage or weather-sheltered shed to maximise longevity.

I have a single-phase home. How many kWh can I install?
No problem. The Fronius Reserva works seamlessly with the Fronius Primo GEN24 Plus, which is made for single-phase households. In this setup, you can install one battery tower with exactly 3 battery modules, providing a total of 9.5 kWh of usable storage. If you need more storage, you can scale the system by connecting up to four towers in parallel, for a maximum capacity of 38 kWh on single-phase systems. This gives you plenty of flexibility to power your home well into the night, or cover higher consumption needs like EV charging or all-electric appliances. Your local Fronius installer can help configure the ideal setup based on your energy profile and local requirements.

What if I already have a Fronius SnapINverter – can I add a Reserva battery?
Not directly. The Fronius SnapINverter series (like Primo, Symo, or Galvo) is not compatible with the Fronius Reserva battery, because it lacks the hybrid functionality required for battery storage. However, you can upgrade your system by replacing or adding a Fronius GEN24 Plus to your SnapINverter.

Can I add a Fronius Reserva battery to my existing non-Fronius solar system?
Yes, with one upgrade. To use the Fronius Reserva, you’ll need to install a Fronius hybrid inverter, such as the Fronius GEN24 Plus. These inverters are designed to work seamlessly with the Reserva battery and enable full system functionality including backup power, battery charging and monitoring via the Fronius Solar.web app.

How is it installed?
It’s modular and plug-and-play. No internal cabling needed. Your Fronius installer will take care of the rest.

Is my data secure?
Yes. All user data is stored on secure European servers under strict GDPR compliance, with regular audits and privacy protocols in place.
