NRG Solar in action

NRG Solar has been a proud supplier of Fronius products since its inception in 2014.

When establishing the business, founder Eddy May believed it was crucial to find suppliers whose values aligned with their own. After visiting the Fronius Australia Head Office in Melbourne and being inspired by their passion for the 24 hours of sun vision, NRG Solar chose Fronius to be its first partner.

Since 2014, NRG Solar has installed thousands of Fronius inverters across South Australia. As both companies have grown, the relationship between NRG Solar and Fronius has continued to strengthen. In 2017 and 2018, members of the NRG Solar team visited Fronius headquarters in Austria and were able to see the state-of-the-art facilities and technology first hand. Over the years partnering with Fronius, NRG Solar has been particularly impressed with the innovation of the Fronius Solar.web monitoring platform.

NRG Solar recently set out to determine how solar production varies when using different inverters where partial shade is a factor. The three-month testing exercise featured the Fronius GEN24 Plus, and involved erecting a purpose-built, ground-mounted testing station.

Case study

Glenelg North, Australia: Eddy May, Director of NRG Australia, is a firm believer in a 100% renewable energy future. In late 2015 Mr. May installed a Fronius Energy Package at his home in South Australia; bringing the renewable energy revolution into his daily family life. The transition to a household powered by the sun has been seamless and the rewards are felt both indoors and outdoors; “In October (2017), we were able to heat up our pool by five degrees from our heat pump - all from the sun!” says Mr. May. With a simple remote software update to their existing Fronius Symo Hybrid in 2018, the May‘s household became on of the first Fronius/BYD installations in Australia. “The flexible design of the Fronius Symo Hybrid meant that we could add a BYD Battery-Box HV 8.96 kWh unit to our existing PV system several years after the initial install.”

Mr. May takes full advantage of the South Australian sun by utilising Fronius monitoring solutions to increase his family‘s self-consumption.“ [In the graph] you can see the loads coming on at 9:30 am for the pool pump filter, then the heat pump coming on at 10 am. My family‘s self-consumption was increased to 84% on this day. The reliability of our Fronius monitoring means we can set up the swimming pool pumps and air conditioning loads at times where we can predict the highest output of the PV, thereby giving us the maximum chance to optimise self-consumption. ”Why is the renewable energy revolution so important to Mr. May? “I am a 24 hours of sun advocate, and I believe in sustainability for generations to come. My Fronius PV solution not only gives me grid independence but it teaches my children about solar production, grid consumption and ultimately self-sufficiency and how all of that helps the environment.”
