LSC Low Spatter Control

The low-spatter welding process

The LSC process is a modified dip transfer arc with extremely high arc stability. The user can achieve high-quality weld seams with minimal spattering and an increased deposition rate, even in an intermediate and spray arc. The LSC process is based on the short circuit occurring at a low current level, which leads to a gentle reignition and a stable welding process. This is made possible due to the incredible performance of the TPS/i, which recognizes the process phases occurring during the short circuit extremely quickly and reacts to them. The user can therefore achieve outstanding results in conjunction with the penetration stabilizer, especially in a spray arc.

Questions about LSC

The LSC process is available with our LSC Welding Package. This software package contains a number of low-spatter characteristics – thanks to the high arc pressure it is also perfect for root pass welding.

Application areas

LSC offers huge advantages for manual applications with its weld properties and included penetration stabilizer. To be specific, this means particularly high weld seam quality with up to 75% less spatter.

The powerful arc of the LSC process is also perfect for root pass welding without weld-pool support. The LSC’s properties are ideal for welding in the downward position or overhead position.

Welding with LSC in dip transfer arc

Comparison of standard dip transfer arc and LSC arc

The LSC principle of gentle reignition represents a significant contrast to the standard dip transfer arc. The principle is invoked by the short circuit being triggered at a low current level. This, in turn, results in a stable welding process.

The right characteristic for every application

Root

The powerful arc with good gap-bridging enables straightforward root pass welding – even during position welding.

Universal

Simple, time-saving welding settings for standard steel welding applications, with an arc that can be easily controlled.

Braze

Characteristic for MIG/MAG brazing. High brazing speed, reliable wetting and good flow of braze material.

Galvanized

Special characteristic – developed for welding galvanized sheets. Powerful dip transfer arc enables perfect root pass welding with no weld-pool support. Optimum gap-bridging ability and ideal for challenging welding positions.

Root pass welding made easy

Up until now, the root pass generally had to be executed in an upward position in a conventional dip transfer arc. In a downward position, there is a risk of a lack of fusion due to the low arc pressure and the associated advancing of the weld pool.

In contrast, with the LSC Root characteristic, welding can now be carried out in a downward position and therefore faster thanks to the high arc pressure and high deposition rate. With LSC Root Advanced, a rate of 25 cm/min in a downward position can even be achieved.

Constant penetration with stabilizer

With an activated penetration stabilizer, the TPS/i readjusts the wire speed instead of the welding current, thereby ensuring constant penetration.

An additional wire control keeps the current and penetration constant if the distance between the welding torch and the component changes. The arc becomes significantly more stable and the penetration is always constant.

Advantages of the penetration stabilizer:

  • Improved welding quality
  • Save on rework and costs
  • Ideal support for insufficient view or accessibility = stick out fluctuations are compensated for
  • Ideal for position welding
  • Narrower opening angles can be used – saving on filler material

TPS 400i LSC Advanced

The length and arrangement of the grounding cables and hosepacks results in increased inductance. In turn, this leads to lower process stability and increasing welding spatter. The TPS 400i LSC Advanced is the answer to this welding challenge. The LSC Advanced module guarantees that the inductance arising in the hosepack is dissipated. This results in a more constant droplet detachment with less welding spatter in the dip transfer and intermediate arcs.
