Comparing cell phone advancement to that of the PV inverter shows how far both have come. The first cell phone weighed 2.4 pounds, was limited to 30 minute calls and required 10 hours to recharge. Likewise, the first inverters were inefficient, heavy, and expensive for their power class. Compact ‘flip’ phones of the early 2000’s represented a huge improvement but today’s mobile phones are even far beyond those in terms of processing power, battery life, and operational features..  The 2000’s also saw lighter, more efficient string inverters. Today’s string inverters are even lighter, more efficient, feature-rich, and less costly, but they are often incorrectly seen as outdated technology as if still in the “flip phone” stage. How did this myth arise and what are the advanced features of today’s modern string inverters?
