Backup power function Independence in the event of a power outage

Photovoltaics with backup power function

PV system owners want maximum independence with their PV system – even during power failures and grid disturbances. In order to provide the household with an optimal supply of energy during a power outage, Fronius hybrid inverters have an integrated backup power function that can be perfectly adapted to various customer needs.

Advantages of a photovoltaic system with backup power function

If you were to sum up Fronius backup power options in just a few words it would be maximum independence and flexibility. Maximum independence thanks to the three-phase backup power supply, which is integrated as standard in all hybrid inverters and automatically supplies the household with energy via a PV generator and battery during a grid failure. Maximum flexibility thanks to Multi Flow Technology, which enables the battery to continue to be charged via the PV generator during a power failure and at the same time supply the household with electricity.

  • Needs-based backup power variants
  • Basic backup power supply with the PV Point integrated as standard*
  • Full Backup option – for maximum independence

*for all Fronius GEN24 Plus inverters

Basic backup power supply & complete independence

Basic backup power supply with the PV Point

The Fronius GEN24 Plus inverters feature an innovative basic backup power supply with no need for any complex additional installation work. This is a backup power socket, which can be used to operate single-phase loads up to 3 kW.

This enables system owners to charge their phone or laptop with ease, ensuring that they remain contactable and up-to-date with the latest information during a power outage.

  • Automatic activation in the event of power failure
  • No complex additional installations required
  • Supply of 1-phase loads up to 3 kW

Full Backup option for maximum independence

The Full-Backup option enables maximum independence and flexibility to be achieved with the Fronius GEN24 Plus and the Fronius Symo Hybrid inverter. In the event of a power outage, the inverter automatically switches to backup power operation and the entire household is supplied with energy via the photovoltaic system and the battery. This means it is possible to supply both single-phase and three-phase loads, such as an electric oven or a heat pump.

A battery storage system is needed for this. Thanks to integrated Multi Flow Technology in the hybrid inverter, the loads can be supplied by the PV system and the battery during a grid failure. If sufficient PV energy is being generated, it is also possible to supply loads and charge the battery simultaneously in the event of a power outage.

  • Supply of the entire household (1-phase and 3-phase)
  • Automatic switch to backup power in the event of a power failure
  • Efficient energy flows also possible in the event of a power outage

In the case of the PV Point backup power variant, a socket is connected to the inverter. This socket can be used to operate household electrical appliances in the event of a power outage.

If a power failure occurs with the Full Backup option, the inverter automatically disconnects the building from the public grid. The household is supplied with the necessary electricity by both the PV generator and the battery. In conjunction with the Fronius Smart Meter, the hybrid inverter ensures that the building remains disconnected from the public grid until the fault or failure has been rectified and normal grid operation is restored.

“We want to supply our entire household with PV electricity in the event of a power outage. It was therefore clear that we were looking for an inverter that could do this. There aren’t that many that can, but we have found one in the Fronius GEN24 Plus.”
