World’s largest e-mobility rally stops off at Fronius Sattledt site
The Wave Trophy, the world’s largest e-mobility rally, is currently on tour throughout Austria. Along the way, the participants and their electric vehicles are making several stops, some of which include visits to innovative companies that are working on making the future green and clean. Thanks to our ‘24 hours of sun’ vision, Fronius made the cut and we welcomed the Wave tour to our production site in Sattledt on September 28, 2018.

E-mobility has what it takes to be part of our everyday lives – and Louis Palmer’s mission is to prove it. Ten years ago, the creator of the Wave (World Advanced Vehicle Expedition) was the first person to travel around the world in a vehicle powered solely by solar energy, the ‘Solartaxi’. Since achieving that feat, he has set off on a tour throughout Austria and Switzerland every year with like-minded people and their electric vehicles. On this year’s Wave Austria tour, participants are currently making their way from Wangen im Allgäu in Germany to the municipality of Werfenweng in the state of Salzburg. And today the world’s largest rally for e-mobility stopped off to see us here at Fronius in Sattledt.
24 hours of sun and e-mobility
Our vision of 24 hours of sun here at Fronius aims to supply renewable energy for electricity, heat and mobility. We are confident that it is possible to cover energy consumption globally using power from the sun, wind, water and biomass. There is still a lot of work to be done – all the more so in the field of mobility given that more than 95% of energy used for transportation currently comes from fossil fuels. If we are serious about achieving our climate goals, this simply has to change. Renewable energy must come to be seen as a much more significant part of mobility too. Being chosen as one of the Wave Trophy hosts gives us the chance to demonstrate once again that e-mobility has been much more than just a vision for the future to us for some time now. Renewable energy sources are a viable alternative to fossil fuels within the transportation sector too.
Wave Austria 2018: a tour of Austria between 21 and 29 September
Wave Austria started off in Wangen im Allgäu in Germany on 21 September and the final destination is the municipality of Werfenweng in the state of Salzburg, where participants are due to arrive on 29 September. The rally takes in sustainable tourist destinations under the umbrella of the Alpine Pearls association and several mountain passes, including the Gerlos Pass, the Großglockner High Alpine Road, the Radstätter Tauern Pass and the Sölk Pass. There are more than 14,600 metres to climb in total. Dubbed a ‘Green Technology Tour’, the Wave incorporates stops in certain communities as well as at a number of companies that are working towards a vision of a cleaner and brighter future.
E-mobility at Fronius
Every single Fronius SnapINverter comes with energy flow management functions and open interfaces for all standard communication protocols as standard. This makes it easy for self-generated energy to be fed to charging stations and then used to charge vehicles.
