Strong demand in the solar market: Fronius Solar Energy production running at full capacity

Company

1/16/2023 / Austria
In 2022, Fronius invested EUR 187 million in expanding and converting production sites in Austria and the Czech Republic, creating a stable manufacturing situation with capacities for additional production lines and jobs.
Increasing demand for self-sufficiency and renewable energy has led to a real boom in PV. Consequently, output at Fronius Solar Energy is higher than ever. In 2022, despite challenging circumstances such as unstable supply chains and shortages of components and staff, we were able to produce almost 32,000 inverters per month for the solar market as a European manufacturer. Production is still running at full capacity and will even increase by a further 65 percent to 52,000 inverters per month by the end of 2023.

Additional production lines, stable manufacturing

To ensure we continue to meet the demands of the solar market, we are investing heavily in expanding our production. In 2022, we put EUR 187 million into expanding and converting our production sites at Sattledt (Austria) and Český Krumlov (Czech Republic), and next year we will increase investment to more than EUR 230 million.

In Sattledt, the floor space has been expanded by more than 28,000 m2 to a total of 69,000 m2. Already in operation, the Fronius Tauro has been produced in the northern extension of the production plant since August. A further production line for the Fronius GEN24 Plus will also be built this year as part of the renovations of the existing production facilities. Two further production lines for hybrid inverters will be added in 2023.

Just recently, our competence centre for inductive components in Český Krumlov (Czech Republic) was also expanded, and the next stage of the expansion is already being planned: Over the next five years, not only will the production areas be substantially enlarged but also the number of employees doubled.

Overall, the Fronius workforce will see strong growth in the coming years, with around 1,300 new employees being welcomed into the company worldwide by the end of 2023.

‘Made in Europe’ quality

Our products and solutions represent high quality and sustainability from Europe. With the expansion of our own production capacities and trust in our predominantly European suppliers, we can meet the demands on the solar market and still remain true to our standards and values. Maintaining and promoting the European value chain is particularly important to us: 95 percent of our contract partners are based in Europe.

Investing in the future in a sustainable manner

We live and breathe real sustainability, consuming resources with care and using energy-saving and efficient technologies: Fronius can currently boast the largest ice storage system in Europe: two ice tanks are used at our production site in Sattledt for heating in winter and cooling in summer. The fully automatic high-bay warehouse on site provides space for 7,000 pallets and 12,500 containers for small parts.

Electric company vehicles and charging stations for field staff, solar power from the company’s own PV system on the roof, and much more: The coming year will also bring investment in a sustainable future to many of our 25 Fronius Solar Energy branches around the world. Fronius Italy is commissioning a new PV system and charging stations for electric vehicles, and our colleagues at Fronius Switzerland will provide twelve electric vehicles for field staff from 2023.
