Fronius Storage solutions Product Guide

Fronius GEN24 Plus with BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM

The BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM is the successor of the BYD Battery Box HV. The BYD Box Premium Line is compatible with GEN24 Plus (HVS/HVM) and Symo Hybrid (HVM). The capacities of the batteries range from 5.1–10.2 kWh (HVS) and 8.3-22.1 kWh (HVM). Fronius has once again achieved true grid back-up, with the BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM. This means that even three-phase loads can be used in a grid back-up situation.

Please note:

/ During commissioning, make sure to set up the BYD using the BeConnect App first, then afterwards commission the GEN24 Plus.

/ The BYD battery should always be turned on before the inverter.

Turning the system off:

  1. Battery OFF: Hold the power button on the front at least 5 seconds.
  2. Inverter OFF:  Switch off the DC-side (rotary switch on the inverter) and the AC-side (circuit breaker).
  3. Leave the components off for at least 30 seconds. The LEDs of the inverter and battery must be completely off.

Turning the system on:

1. Battery ON: Switch on the battery fuses. If you're unable to switch on the fuses, hold the power button for 5 seconds and try again.

2. Inverter ON: Switch on the DC-side (rotary switch on the inverter) and the AC-side (circuit breaker).

Further information on this storage solution and its backup feature can be found in the Fronius GEN24 Plus Product Guide.

With battery management (time-of-use), rules can be defined according to which the battery is to be charged or discharged - depending on the day of the week and the time of day.

The advantages of this function:

  • Individual definition of weekday and time of day dependent rules.
  • Possibility for electricity tariff-dependent battery charging from the grid
  • Reservation of storage capacity for the times with high PV production

Fronius Symo Hybrid with BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM

The Fronius Symo Hybrid inverter is compatible with the BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM since firmware 1.16.6-1. The firmware of the inverter can be updated on Solar.web under Settings - Components. The wiring plan for the Fronius Symo Hybrid - BYD Box Premium HVM is available in the Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM Quick Start Guide, available in the external BYD Downloads.

Backup Power

The Fronius Symo Hybrid with BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM offers a 3-phase backup power feature. The switchover from normal operation to backup power takes less than 90 seconds. A backup power switchover system is required (e.g. Enwitec switchover box). The respective version must be clarified with the grid operator.

Please note: The Fronius Symo Hybrid is a grid-connected inverter with a backup power function – it is not a stand-alone inverter. The backup power mode must not be in operation for more than 15% of the duration of the inverter's overall operating hours.
