Thanks to the Fronius GEN24 Plus and a storage system, an Austrian agricultural company is saving on their daily energy costs

Potatoes, potato products and last but not least Sauwald vodka – Sauwald Erdäpfel GmbH is well-known in the region and beyond for everything potato. The company operates regionally, sustainably and makes the most of this natural product. In 2010 a pure potato vodka with the unique Sauwald flavour was born from an idea to create more value from the potatoes. As correct storage of the potatoes is crucial, an automatic cooling system ensures the warehouse remains at the optimum temperature using electricity generated from Sauwald’s very own PV system on the roof. This saves Martin Paminger, managing director of Sauwald Erdäpfel GmbH, and his company a considerable amount of money and is another example of the company’s sustainable and resource-conserving approach.

As an agricultural pioneer when it comes to sustainability, Martin Paminger was an early adopter of solar technology and operates two PV systems with a total power of 140 kWp. To make even better use of solar energy, he has now added a PV system with an energy storage solution: the Fronius Symo GEN24 Plus and two BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM batteries.

Sun + storage solution = total independence

Combining our hybrid inverter, the Fronius GEN24 Plus, with a connected battery system makes the agricultural business’ energy supply even more independent. The custom PV system solution provides Martin Paminger with sufficient energy around the clock – no additional electricity needs to be purchased from the grid, even during the evening or at night. Our vision of 24 hours of sun has become a reality.

During the sunny summer months, the company can cover all of its electricity needs itself – self-sufficiently and without any additional costs. A dream come true for managing director Martin Paminger. On average, the energy storage device starts in the morning with a residual capacity of 20% and is recharged to 100% throughout the day using the energy from the PV modules. Martin Paminger can view the power consumption at any time using our free monitoring tool Fronius Solar.web, meaning he is always optimally informed about his yield and energy consumption.

Own energy needs fully covered during summer

In our user-friendly online tool Fronius Solar.web, you can quickly and easily see that the company can cover all of its energy needs itself. As you can see on the screenshot, energy is drawn from the battery in the morning and evening (green), while during the day the generated solar energy is directly consumed by the respective loads (yellow).

Backup power for every situation

With our Fronius GEN24 Plus and storage system, Martin Paminger is also well prepared for an emergency. Should the company experience a power cut, our hybrid inverter can provide three-phase backup power thanks to its unique Full Backup function. The high charging and discharging power combined with the battery ensure that, thanks to our backup power function, even the company’s large loads can continue to run safely and reliably in the event of a power failure.
