Find out more about Gerd and Alex’s work
Alex: You could say that our two areas are interdependent. Where networks are concerned, nothing works without a server running in the background, and vice versa.
Gerd: That’s right. We need the network technology infrastructure just to keep our servers running. So we support each other and keep communicating, and that’s why the whole thing works so well. We could not work without network technology.
Everyday working life
What is a normal working day like for you?
Alex: As a network administrator, I prepare access points for other sites. These are configured via the management system and integrated into the network. By making sure every Fronius employee can access the network, we essentially ensure that others can work. You don’t always sit in front of a computer all day, as the cliché goes. Sometimes you’re exchanging ideas with colleagues, having meetings, delivering projects, and much more besides.
Gerd: As system administrators, we operate both physical and virtual servers. We have over 1,000 servers in use, which provide all kinds of services to enable our users to work, including authentication, e-mail services, file services, etc. You can also become a system administrator if you’re looking to change career. You should be interested in IT, always be on the ball, and above all be enthusiastic about this field.

Personal insights
Alex: I’m Alex, a network administrator at Fronius, and I’ve been with the company for almost five years. I started my apprenticeship in 2019 and completed it in 2021. I’m responsible for networks like LAN and WiFi within the company.
Gerd: My name is Gerd, I’m a system administrator at Fronius and I’m responsible for the server and storage landscape. I’ve been working at Fronius for one and a half years now.
What do you like about your work?
Gerd: The coolest thing about my job is that every day is different. It’s fun to get to grips with new things, as you almost always learn something new. There’s a great sense of team spirit and that’s what makes the job so special.
Alex: For me, the technology is what makes the job so exciting. Then there are the other factors like the fun we have as a team, the variety, and the spontaneity. You often go to different sites and get to know new colleagues.

“Just give it a try. You’ll never know how to do everything from the start, but there’s a team to support you and further training opportunities at Fronius. If you don’t try anything or risk anything, then you’ll never gain anything,” Alex, Network Administrator.
