Selcuk’s story

Employee Selcuk at his workplace in the Fronius production department

Electrical Engineer

Whether in Production, Technical Support, or the Repair Center, electrical engineering plays an important role in many departments at Fronius. Electrical engineers focus on process security, line technology, and final inspection. They find, analyze, and rectify faults, repair machines, maintain systems, and ensure that inverters, battery chargers, and welding systems are thoroughly inspected.

Electrical engineers at Fronius work at our Upper Austrian sites and are also deployed worldwide, including at our factory in Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic.

Join Selcuk at work for a day

Selcuk: Hello, I’m Selcuk! I’m 24 years old and have been working as a technician at Fronius for a year and a half. This means I’m responsible for ensuring that all the machines run smoothly.

In our team, one quality is valued above all others: accuracy. It’s important that I do my work well and precisely so that no errors occur later down the line.

My job is very varied. We are a team of three: two technicians and a machine operator. Every week we’re responsible for a different machine. I think it’s great that I’m not always working on the same machine—that way it doesn’t get boring.

Career path

How did you start out at Fronius?

Selcuk: I’d been looking for ages for a varied job where I could start every day with a smile. Before that, I’d only ever worked on one machine, which was far too monotonous for me. Now I look after many different systems, which I really enjoy! Fronius was recommended to me by a friend. It was clear to me straightaway that I was in the right place.

Why is your job the right one for you?

Selcuk: Because I enjoy learning new things and like variety! The most exciting thing for me is when machines are being adjusted, serviced, or accepted, as I can pester my colleagues from Process Engineering with questions to find out even more about the equipment.

Everyday working life

What does a working day look like for you?

Selcuk: I rectify faults and maintain our systems. I usually start with a tour of the machines I’m responsible for that week. If a signal light is flashing red or orange somewhere, that means there’s a fault. First take a look at the fault and get an accurate picture of what’s going on, then I work step by step to resolve it.

If the fault is affecting electrical systems, I check that no one is in the vicinity or operating the machine. Sometimes it’s also necessary to switch off the machine. I also secure mechanical systems. If the job is going to take a little longer, I let my team know and concentrating on getting the fault fixed as soon as possible. In the end, I’m happy when the machine is running again and my colleagues can get on with their day.

What skills and tools does someone in your position need?

Selcuk: Working accurately and precisely is extremely important! Some of the machines we work with are very complex and taking shortcuts is completely out of the question. I concentrate hard and always double or even triple-check my work to make sure I haven’t made any mistakes. After all, the last thing I want is for the same fault to crop up again two hours later. And of course, no engineer’s toolbox should be without a slotted and Philips® screwdriver, a socket set, and a machine wrench.

Personal insights

What do you appreciate in particular about Fronius as an employer?

Selcuk: Further education and training play an important role at Fronius. Great importance is attached to ensuring that all employees keep their specialist knowledge up to date and complete annual training courses. This fills any gaps in your knowledge and you learn a lot, which I think is great!

What is your biggest professional challenge?

Selcuk: New, unknown faults often arise for which we have to find a solution. This calls for teamwork, so we come up with lots of ideas—and one of them always works. We get results by working together.
