Yannick’s story

Interface Developer, Wels

As an interface developer, you develop interfaces to ensure seamless communication between different systems as well as an optimal data transfer. Regardless of whether you’re dealing with internal company software or customer platforms, creativity, IT expertise, and team spirit are needed in this role.

Find out more about Yannick’s work

Yannick: As an interface developer, I make sure that different systems can communicate seamlessly with one another. You could say our team is responsible for the smooth transfer of data at Fronius. This is because our systems never communicate directly with each other, but always via an interface that we design.

We distinguish between three main categories of interfaces: internal, customer platforms, and production. Internal interfaces used when internal company systems need to communicate with each other. The second category encompasses all the customer platforms we look after, ensuring proper data provision.

And the third area, production, is where we also have a finger in every pie.

Everyday working life

Yannick: We work with a ticket system that users can use to submit their requests to us. This is usually followed by an initial meeting with the relevant departments and development teams to define the specific workflow.

Then the project goes into development and is implemented later down the line. You’re still responsible for the interface you’ve developed even after implementation, which means that if something doesn’t work at some point, we are there to fix the problem.

We are very closely linked to the Customer Relationship Management and the Enterprise Resource Planning teams (well all the development teams when I come to think of it) because we take the data from their systems and make it available elsewhere. I like that about my job. It makes it very varied. Every day is different and that’s why it never gets boring.

Personal insights

What do you need to thrive in your role?

Yannick: I think you should have a creative streak and be ambitious, because not everything always works out the way you want it to. You have to really work at it and keep going until you’ve achieved what you set out to do.

What excites you about your work?

Yannick: I actually have the most fun when something completely new comes along. I like to really try to understand the task at hand and come up with solutions. That’s why I enjoy solving more complicated challenges so much; something I have to puzzle over and ask myself ’What’s the best way to do this?’

Teamwork

How would you describe the atmosphere at your workplace?

Yannick: Our team spirit is great and my colleagues are all very nice. We get on really well and even meet up in our free time outside of work. What I particularly like is that you can always ask questions in our team. If you’re stuck with something and don’t know what to do, there’s always someone there to help—you’re never left to struggle alone.

What about further training and benefits?

Yannick: When you come here straight from school like I did, you learn a lot of new things right away. Fronius also offers numerous training courses, so you can always stay at the top of your game. There are loads of benefits too. With your employee ID card you get discounts and promotions in various stores and at the gym—which is great for me, because I love working out!
