Fronius presentation on strategic digitisation

10/25/2017 / Linz, Austria
“Man and machine: an unbeatable team” was the theme for this year’s WKO Oberösterreich (Upper Austria Economic Chamber) InnovationsDIALOG conference, which took place on 11th October 2017 in Linz. A few weeks earlier, on 27th and 28th September 2017, the international mechatronics network met at voestalpine Stahlwelt, where the spotlight was on the effects of digitisation in manufacturing. At both events Bernhard Freiseisen (Strategic Marketing Fronius Perfect Welding) gave a presentation on “Strategic digitisation in the Business Unit Perfect Welding”.

Bernhard Freiseisen emphasised how important it is for businesses to define and put a high priority on strategic digitisation goals. Actively bringing together business strategy and digitisation is essential in doing this. At Fronius Perfect Welding, digitisation is being systematically advanced in two domains in particular: on the one hand, the digitisation of customer relationship management enables us to achieve a deeper understanding of customers and their needs. On the other hand, application data from customers can help to improve research and development, and further increase the company’s lead in the market. “Aside from the internal company digitisation strategy, the wider application of data also gives us the ability to create new business models, which will help us to reach our customers better,” explained Freiseisen, hinting at future developments.

The WKO Oberösterreich aimed to explain how man and machine can become an unbeatable team at their InnovationsDIALOG conference on the 11th October. Human experts met prominent machines such as the robot “PEPPER” and supercomputer “Watson”. Twenty experts from various areas of technology discussed how human and artificial intelligence can come together.

This year’s “International Mechatronics Forum” addressed a similar topic. On 27th and 28th September, over 500 international representatives from the mechatronics sector gathered in Linz. The effects of digitisation in manufacturing were the focus of the event that Fronius participated in as a Gold Sponsor. The primary goal of the Mechatronics Forum is to strengthen the exchange of information between cluster management and forum members (including high profile companies like IBM, MAN Truck & Bus, Siemens AG and Airbus Operations GmbH) and to expand the network further into other international markets.

Both events concluded that the central challenge bringing digitisation and business strategy together. The presentation by Bernhard Freiseisen offered interesting approaches to this demonstrating that Fronius has already taken on this challenge with strategic measures for the digital future.
