Both models offer practical features and setting options that enable flexible, particularly cost-effective and sustainable charging. 

With flexible electricity tariffs, the option of PV surplus charging and two practical charging modes, the Wattpilot offers all electric vehicle drivers maximum independence and leaves nothing to be desired.

COST-EFFICIENT CHARGING WITH VARIABLE ELECTRICITY TARIFFS

The Wattpilot enables your customers to charge their electric vehicles particularly economically. This works in combination with variable electricity tariffs. Flexible electricity tariffs are based on the current market prices, which are passed on to the customer with a minimal surcharge. The electricity price is usually lower at night and when plenty of solar energy and wind power are available. It therefore makes sense to charge an electric vehicle at those times

This is possible with the intelligent charging solution from Fronius: using the Solar.wattpilot app in Eco Mode the customer can simply set the maximum charge they require for their electric vehicle. The Wattpilot then charges whenever the actual market price reaches or falls below the defined value

* This feature is initially only available in Austria (aWattar Hourly) and Germany (Lumina.Strom), although further countries are planned.

INTELLIGENT CHARGING MODES FOR GREATER FLEXIBILITY 

Two charging modes are available, which can be selected via the app or directly on the Wattpilot:

ECO MODE

Eco Mode is the ideal charging mode for PV system owners. In this mode, surplus energy from the PV system is primarily used for charging, and variable tariffs are used for the remaining electricity if and when available. This combination facilitates the most cost-effective charging.  

NEXT TRIP MODE

Next Trip Mode enables charging for a defined distance (in kWh) driven at a fixed point in time. The amount of energy for the planned trip as well as the time are simply set in the app. The Wattpilot then charges the electric vehicle with the required amount of energy by the desired time. During this process, priority is given to surplus PV and the flexible electricity tariffs are accessed at the most economical times. This means that the defined charge is guaranteed every time – and always at the lowest possible price.


TOP UP SOLAR POWER – WITH PV SURPLUS CHARGING

Charging an electric vehicle with electricity from a PV system makes sense for several reasons:

  • Increased PV self-consumption rates     
  • Faster ROI of the photovoltaic system     
  • Lower-cost electricity for the electric vehicle

The Wattpilot takes full advantage of these benefits with PV surplus charging. 

In particular by switching between 1 and 3 phases and controlling in 1 ampere steps, it is possible to optimally use surplus energy from 1.38 kW to 22 kW. The changeover takes place fully automatically and leads to significantly higher self-consumption rates. Another advantage of surplus charging is that load peaks can be completely avoided during the charging process.
