Automating longitudinal seams with precision and stability
Longitudinal seams that are several meters long are often characterized by varying gap widths. Precise process control and optimally adjusted parameters are therefore crucial during joining; especially for materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, duplex, or nickel-based materials. To reliably meet these requirements, longitudinal seam systems ensure precise guidance of the welding head as well as the clamping and alignment of the components along the entire length of the seam.

Automated welding of boilers

A shortage of skilled workers and rising production volumes made it necessary for Heizomat to automate its boiler production. The entire welding process was optimized with three Fronius robotic welding cells, the PMC welding process, and offline programming via Pathfinder. The result? Welding speeds of up to 80 cm/min, consistently high seam quality, and boilers that are fully gastight and watertight. At the same time, the production time per component is reduced from 6 hours to about 1 hour and 40 minutes, with significantly less downtime and less time spent on teaching.

Flexible robotic welding cell for small batch sizes

At Anton Paar, high-precision components for measuring instruments are manufactured in batch sizes ranging from 1 to 400 pieces. A Handling-to-Welding robotic welding cell from Fronius makes it possible to flexibly position a wide variety of components and weld them reliably using TIG or MIG/MAG (CMT, PMC) processes. Multiple workflows and automated component handling ensure that entire orders can be processed in a single run. The result is a high degree of system autonomy combined with maximum flexibility in production.

Using LaserHybrid welding in frame manufacturing

TRUMPF wanted to bring the production of machine frames weighing several tons back in-house in order to reduce costs, lead times, and dependence on outside suppliers. With a Fronius LaserHybrid robotic welding system, components can now be manufactured efficiently and reliably without the need for energy-intensive annealing after welding. The combined laser-MAG process ensures high welding speeds, stable processes, and reduced porosity. At the same time, material usage and component distortion decrease, while productivity and flexibility in manufacturing increase significantly.

Overlay welding

Reliably protect finned walls against corrosion

When constructing large boilers for waste incinerators, finned walls must be permanently protected against corrosive substances such as acids or alkalis. Using an automated CMT claddingsystem from Fronius, components up to 12 meters high are evenly and reliably coated and clad. A key factor here is a low level of dilution; at FAKOP, this remains consistently below 3%. This results in durable protective coatings, high process stability, and reproducible coating quality.
